Doing more with the same mission.
The Friends of the Kickapoo Rail Trail, an Illinois nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, was founded in April 2022 to promote and expand the Kickapoo Rail Trail and to increase its use and enjoyment by all trail users. In support of the Kickapoo Rail Trail we coordinate our efforts and activities with the Champaign County Forest Preserve District, Urbana Park District, Vermilion County Conservation District, the city of Danville, and all communities along the trail. Our primary goals include assisting with and advocating for the development of the trail corridor and the positive environmental, economic, health, and quality of life benefits it will have for the communities it serves.
In October 2023, the Friends of the Kickapoo Rail Trail expanded its scope and mission after signing an agreement with the nonprofit, Heartland Pathways, to receive its former railroad corridors in Piatt and DeWitt counties. To reflect this expanded work, we are now doing business as Trails of the Grand Prairie, encompassing the ongoing work of the Friends of the Kickapoo Rail Trail, while expanding our outreach and advocacy through Piatt and DeWitt counties, and beyond.
We can’t do what we do without you! Help us continue our mission by donating today.
