Oakwood Cafe & Bunk House
In 2024 we kicked off a project in Oakwood with a lofty goal: create a space like those we have had the great fortune to stumble across in our trail adventures across the country. To meet this goal we worked with the Village of Oakwood to acquire the former Oakwood Fire Station. The location of the Old Fire House in proximity to the Kickapoo rail trail offered an ideal opportunity to create a space to serve trail users and the Oakwood community in a number of ways, specifically aligning our core missions for the Kickapoo Rail Trail; to advance economic development along the rail trail corridor, and to enhance trail users general experience.
We are currently in the process of converting the firehouse into a coffee shop/cafe with a two-room bunkhouse available for overnight reservation by trail users. Along with the cafe and bunkhouse we will be building out a multi-purpose gathering space that can serve as overflow seating for the coffee shop, as well as be available for use as a meeting space for other community groups.
We are aiming to be open in Spring of 2026 and are actively seeking a cafe tenant. Learn more here!
