KRT Urbana Connector
In September of 2025 the Friends of the KRT received the deeds for two parcels of land in east Urbana, across Main Street from Weaver Park. This acquisition was the first step in a project coordinated with the Champaign County Forest Preserve District to create safer access to the KRT from the Weaver Park Trailhead. The properties are directly across Main Street from planned multi-use "Baker's Lane Trail" along the eastern perimeter of Weaver Park. Eventually these properties will be used to develop a connection with the KRT when it gets extended westward beyond where it now terminates at the intersection of East Main St. and Route 150. The project will eliminate 1/2 mile of on-street riding now required to connect to the KRT from the Weaver Park Trailhead.
